Here is a small program that you can put on your computer, I think,...not sure what your OS is or if this "gizmo" is already on new computer OS.

It is called "Screen Shot". If you look on your "qwerty" keyboard you will probably find a key either up beside the "F" keys or in the group of 6 just to the right of the large BACKSPACE key that has "Prt Scr" on it.

That is the key that allows you to print,( save as a Jpg etc.), anything that is on your screen at the time you launch the "Screen Shot" program.

Here is the link to download the small program.

Any problems when you install and to use...email me. I have a couple of good tips but no point in puting them here unless you download and install the program.

or you could simply hit the 'prt sc' button, open Microsoft Paint, then hit the 'paste' button! no fancy program needed.

Also, you can hit the 'prt sc' button multiple times without having to paste, and it saves an image somewhere on your C drive... the location escapes me right now... it's in jpg format i think

I tend to do thinks like that to my computer when I am seriously annoyed with it. Often accompanied by X-rated commentary... I had no idea that people did such things with constructive purpose in mind... tongue.gif

Yup, you are right, but the steps one has to go through to do what you describe are too cumbersome for my liking, besides that, you get the whole screen on a "PrtScr-Paint" combo. The little program lets you frame what you want, be it one square inch or the whole screen. Sure with "Paint" you can "crop" what you want...... but.....another step required.

Chuckled over this one, especially "location escapes" me part. This little program gives you all the options of predetermining where to put the file and also the file type.

Costs you nothing to download and try it, I think you will like its features and trust me...it is not a "fancy program".........I don't do fancy tongue.gif

I am curious how long you have run this program Kip.  I trust you, but not sure if you are as cautious as I am.

Sorry...I'm afraid I'm not clear on your question...do you mean the Screen Shot Program??

If you are thinking about security etc. then all I can tell you is that I run Win2KPro with DSL and a Linksys Router, have Norton, and Adaware installed and all OS updates as well as all Norton and Adaware updates and in all my years, (after 1989), I have never had a "bug" in my system.

I have been running the Screen Shot program for about 9 months now and was made aware of it by my IT guru, who just happens to be my son, who has been an IT specialist for 18years, (owns his own IT company), and NOTHING gets on my computer unless he says it's OK. I used to rely on him so much he banned me from using his 1-800 number sad.gif ..............and he has taught me an awful lot about systems and programs.

As an aside, we each have a neat program,(he wrote it), installed on our computers where he can actually hook up to mine and run my computer from his, no matter where he is in the world. It is really weird to watch the cursor move around and windows open and close while one is just "watching" the screen.

You too, eh? laugh.gif Mine just answers his cell phone with, "What now...?" dry.gif

We've been doing that for quite a while (very handy when neither of us has time to sit with the phone crooked between shoulder and ear) but don't think he wrote it. Picked it up somewhere from an IT pal... hmmm Maybe it was your son... smile.gif

That is the testimonial that I was looking for. Now I download. smile.gif

That remote share is a great thing. We had that back in 1992 on a local UNIX system. i did not have to run up four floors just to answer a simple question. They hit 'share' and I hit 'share' and then I could see what they were doing and then show the correct way. Truly amazing.

p.s Thank You

PRINT SCREEN TIPS (if you installed the program)

(A)The small program is a bit of a memory hog so rather than have the icon in the lower tray, just have a shortcut on the desktop and fire it up when you need it. Of course if you don't have many things running the 4272K that it is using shouldn't be a bother.

( B ) Under PREFERENCES and the area called CAPTURED AREA you might select RECTANGLE. That allows you to take a shot of any size you select..vice the entire screen. I have a designated folder in MY DOCUMENTS for all my screen shots, easy to find for including in email etc. and allows quick DELETION of "old" screenshots.

Enjoy wink.gif

"yeh...and I guess you still have Beta recorder and 8 Tracks at your house eh???"

Mr. smarty pants and his XM Radio... huh.gif

How's that working for you anyway? I was in a Audio Shop here in Calgary and they were offering the Sirius system installed. If I remember correctly you had to get yours on the "Grey" market didn't you? Odd that a reputable installer has the Sirius system ready for install here in CYYC...

Well I have Delphi, not Sirrus, and the odd thing about it...in the boating world...is that some of the boats made here in Canada are offering XM as part of their options package.

Not sure how they do that because as far as I know it is still not "legal/approved" or whatever you call it up here. The attached photo is the coverage area and the link is an XM Forum where a million questions can be asked/answered about the system.

XM Forum

Mine was bought in the US and the "owner" is my son who lives in the US. I stuck the small antennae on a pole and have it on my roof and I get 10/10 reception. The unfortunate thing is that PCRXM is not being made now. I paid about $50.00 US for my setup and they are now being auctioned on EBay for upwards of $200.00. Apparently someone devised a small add-on program and one could download all the music and XM was worried about lawsuits.

You are with XM, this was Sirius that the shop was offering to install here in Calgary. I don't know how they get around the "legal" thing... Grey market I suppose... If I was looking to get one I would have asked more questions...

Sirius

We had an ex-Air Canada Pilot with us on the way to the D.R. on Sunday, I had a peek and was dissapointed it wasn't your smiling face... Or better still Scuba 2's... tongue.gif Said he enjoyed the flight and the service, we should be working for Air Canada...

I smiled and thanked him very much and wished him a great vacation!

Take care Kip!

Yes, there are two companies with XM...Sirrus and Delphi...they make the gear and I believe they both use the two satellites.

Kip, thanks for the latest cool gizmo. I will check it out tonight. I just went over 12 hours without logging in to the AEF......now that is a record! Maybe I can recover from this addiction? Now that is probably worth a separate thread......AEF addicts and the consequences. wink.gifsmile.gif
