Powermatic
News from The Globe and Mail Low-flier Lisa Parker 00:00 EST Friday, March 28, 2003 Vitals Clive Beddoe, 56, president, CEO and co-founder, WestJet, Calgary. My mentors are I don't really have any. I'm a bit of a seat-of-the-pants guy, an opportunist who couldn't believe the amazing opportunity right in front of us. I got into this business because I was paying very high fares on Air Canada to fly between Calgary and Vancouver, and ended up buying my own airplane. It was an eight-seater, licensed to fly commercially, and I sometimes had three or four empty seats, which drove my colleague Mark [Hill] crazy. He offered them for sale-at half the price Air Canada was charging-and we had a lineup of people. One day Mark said to me, "We should start an airline," and I told him he'd lost his marbles! My greatest weakness is my lack of attention to detail. My greatest strength is my lack of attention to detail. The best thing my parents ever taught me was integrity. I have no patience for dishonesty. I know we're doing something right because 49,000 people applied at WestJet last year. When Air Canada [recently] published its abysmal results, 5,000 résumés hit us that day. That was very rewarding. My motto is We like everybody to be cheerful, so we have a funny motto: "If you're not having fun at WestJet, you're fired."
dr1
So, you're a close personal friend of Clive's and he told you he wants to see AC go bankrupt did he? That’s really odd because that’s not what he said to me.
Guest b52er
Nope! Not at all. All I suspect he wants is what ALL are entitled to if AC receives even one red dime. That being, the exact same (porpotionally) that is. Then.......AC is in really big trouble. Either way...........I don't really think it matters.........once again, as long as each airline, and I emphasize EACH AND ALL in Canada receive same. Guest ECB
I spoke with Clive about 3 weeks go on this very subject and he said he has no desire to see Air Canada declare or go under. So unless he personally told you different, I'd worry about your own problems at AC and give the slander a rest.

Guest leftbase
"I wonder if he has any friends outside of the guys he pays a salary to? " Who knows. What is a fact, is that that number - the guys he pays a salary to - is growing every day. C-ya.
