Guest ex-SkyGeek
RE: AIR CANADA BAIL OUT Excerpt from another aviation forum: To AEFORUM Members - Your thoughts on the issue? ...and where does Jazz fit into all of this?!! quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Maybe it is time to write to the Honourable Transport Minister about the unfair latitude of bailing out Air Canada is to the competition and the unnecessary debt to the taxpayer. If US Air can bring themselves around why can't AC? Have you read what concessions their staff have made?" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi ____: Honestly, even if we were able to influence the government's decision, what is our alternative? You have far more years of experience in the aviation industry than I do. Do you honestly believe that our existing competition could collectively fill the [cement] shoes of our current Air Canada, both domestically and internationally? I have a hard time imagining it and from what I understand so does the government. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if this is all part of a brilliant CEO's plan. Yes, I said brilliant. - Air Canada mainline will see mass restructuring under CCAA or even bankruptcy protection, and with the help of the inevitable government package, emerge our flagship trans-border and international carrier with a debt-free new sparkle. - The Tango model is preserved and sees rapid growth through said government package which also preserves a large number of current mainline jobs, albeit at a reduced pay scale and with higher crew utilization. Zip is merged with Tango, or visa-versa, basically becoming what was the 'new' Canada 3000. Boom! Tens of thousands of direct and indirect job losses are minimized; eliminated are the pressures and the possible hardships associated with the mass expansion of another Canadian carrier. Either way, WestJet continues to get bigger; steady as she goes! Write a letter to D.C., but be advised it may take 3-6 months for a reply which, by the way, will be in the form of a (personalized) form letter. I'm almost certain; waste of time if you ask me. Guest terrier
I have been writing to Mr. Collenette, my MP and the opposition transport spokespersons, together with several other MPs I know to be anti AC, pointing out how wrong it would be to support Air Canada. I have received a response from his assistant and been told that my views will be taken into account. I hope that any help given is contingent on a lot of changes being made at AC. Guest terrier
I have been writing to David Collenette, my MP, the opposition transport spokespersons and other MPs sympathetic to the idea of not aiding Air Canada. I have had replies assuring me my views will be considered. One MP I wrote to was James Moore and I quote him below: "Eight air carriers have died on this transport minister's watch in the past six years and I want the transport minister to stand up and say that he will reject any corporate welfare for Air Canada," B.C. Canadian Alliance MP James Moore said. Great guy.

Guest terrier
Not quite yet, but getting close. But why do you care, I am only one of your paying customers? I have seen the contempt with which we are treated by AC employees on the aircraft and on the forum. Why wouldn't I be happy?
Mitch Cronin
"Why wouldn't I be happy?" Because life just got a lot worse for about 30,000 of your fellow human beings and neighbors, perhaps?
Guest terrier
Yeah, but if AC gets a hand out life will be worse for all the employees of the other airlines. So, who would I choose to root for? Obviously the other guys because they don't demonstrate quite so much arrogance. When the AC pilots are working for peanuts because their airline hs obtained bankruptcy protection do you think it would be nice for them to be jeered at on this forum for lowering the bar or sneered at for what they make? That is the type of post AC pilots have made against Jetsgo and WestJet pilots. I think the other guys will behave with much more decorum which is why I don't want AC to get a hand out so it can continue with its anti-competitive behaviour. Simple really. Of course I feel sorry for those who will be unemployed, I felt that way for all the C3 people too. I would hate to see it happen to them again because AC was propped up and put their new companies out of business.
cp fa
"But why do you care, I am only one of your paying customers?" You are not one of my paying passengers. You are an anonymous ex-airline employee with an enormous chip on your shoulder and a hate-on for Air Canada employees, who is taking great delight in their misfortune and wishing them more of the same. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Guest ex-SkyGeek
Been trying to post to the forum all afternoon. Wonder if it works this time: A couple of excerpts from Air Canada's official press release on todays CCAA filing: ---------------------------- Operational Restructuring - Fleet The operational restructuring calls for a revised fleet plan in addition to a restructuring of labour costs. The revised fleet plan calls for streamlining the fleet by eliminating smaller fleet such as the Boeing 747-400, the Boeing 737- 200 and the BAE 146. The plan also calls for the growth of the company's CRJ-50 fleet as well as the introduction of 90-seat Regional Jet aircraft. Corporate Restructuring Air Canada will also undertake a corporate reorganization that will create a new holding parent corporation, Air Canada Enterprises, with separate business units for each of the activities in which the corporation is involved. ----------------------------- I see Zip or Tango getting big fast. I'm still confused about where Jazz might fit into all of this. Perhaps, under my theory, it is also merged into the Zip-Tango model. What do I know though, Jason
Guest ex-SkyGeek
Tried to post on the forum a few times today... kept getting HTTP 500 internal server errors... guess servers were overloaded. Air Canada gets its wish and on a domestic scale becomes a discount airline with a modern fleet of Airbus aircraft. They'll have a surplus of A320's and A319's shortly when the mainline downsizes... But what about Jazz? Air Canada announced an increase in the number of CRJ-50's and the introduction of 90 seat regional jet aircraft. Interesting few months ahead, that's for sure. What do you guys think? Am I way off base here? Jason

Guest ex-SkyGeek
I don't know what the hidden meaning is to this seemingly light-hearted name calling, but I can't help but find it amusing. I did a search on "Doris Bloggs" and could only come up with something about a church parish barbeque that a Mr. and Mrs. (Doris) Bloggs are part of, who own a pitbull-terrier. I don't get it... but thanks for the laugh! It's all in the name.
