Seeker
Please, not again. I can't take it. Not you Kasey, I mean the guy who "invented" it for the 50th time. It's just such a bad idea - create something that's a crappy car and a crappy airplane and sell it for 5 times the price of the two of them separately. Sure, it can be done but why do it? JL
It's as bad as the miracle of high speed rail service between Edmonton and Calgary. Make it stop!

The service would be a very good example of $$$$$$$$$ going down the drain. Remember Mirabel???????

Every 7 years they throw another 10 million into studying the concept. The end report is always the same; high speed rail would cost 10 times as much, add an hour to every trip and be 1/4 as reliable as air travel. Oh well, we'll look again in 7 years! JL
Sorry for the thread drift, but the latest is a hyper loop between Edmonton and Calgary. Rail is so 20th century. Edited July 1, 2021 by JL Spelling

Of course the best fix to speed up travel between YYC and Edmonton would be an airport in the city,,,, Wait, they had one but .......

boestar
High speed rail reliability and OTP is far better than airlines. Just look to Europe and Japan. Japans system is in the neighborhood of 99.9% OTP and Uptime

Japans system is in the neighborhood of 99.9% OTP and Uptime Population of Japan is approx 125 million while Europe is approx 746 million. Distances are shorter and the infrastructure has been in place for over a century. Europeans have been using rail transport for over a hundred years and it has been improved constantly. With mandated security adding to longer airport/flight time it is an easy choice to choose rail. The money is spent to insure reliability and OTP are as high as possible. Cargoagent
Stand by, https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/high-frequency-rail-project-1.6090930 "The federal government is moving forward with a plan to build an all-new high frequency rail line connecting Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City. The proposed lines would reduce travel times between the cities and make trains more reliable, according to plans for the project." More taxpayer money being wasted. I can see it now, a Quebec construction company will win the bid. If it gets built it will be over budget and delayed years past sched. It will run at a loss until someone realizes there is not enough traffic to make it profitable to operate. It will eventually be shut down but not before some politicians and affiliated companies have sucked every possible nickel from the project.
