Single Pilot Long Haul

Recommended Posts

The only thing that is inevitable is change itself!

While this may not be the end result, it is change that is happening!  Airplanes, cars, automation.  Things march forward.

No mention of the hazard of mental health issues; German Wings for example.

or bio-break, or....

IMO this is 'art of the deal' territory for companies to take to their unions.  'OK, ok.  no single pilot ops.  Tell you what.  we've proven there's no TECHNICAL reason to have more than one of those expensive meat bodies in cruise.  So what's it worth to your membership for us to forget about this (until the next negotiations that is)'

We'll see.

I'll never see it.  Wouldn't work it and wouldn't ride in the back as a passenger on an airline that operates that way.  The airline is willing to give away safety and redundancy to save money - hard to spin that a as good deal for the passengers.

Our company (before the pandemic anyway) used to do a BGI-YYZ-YWG as part of a 5day pairing. I would not want to do one of these without someone there with me to catch my “brain farts” and the end of the last leg.

And then there is the fact that on day 5 I find that I’m more susceptible to “brain farts”, as I’m somewhat already thinking what I need to on my days off.

This single pilot thing smells like a unacceptable risk just to save $. IMHO.

It doesn’t matter to the Bean Counters.

John D. Rockefeller was once asked “How much money is enough?” He answered “Just a little bit more.”

BUT, don't forget there will be someone behind a desk with a link to the aircraft (single pilot out of it) to grab a joy-stick and "drone" the ac to the nearest suitable airport ?

? Then the scenario that conspiracy theorists believed about flight controls taken over by hackers causing the "disappearance" of MH370, really will be possible! ?

It wasn't hackers, it was the Lizard People and, I, for one, Welcome Our New Reptilian Overlords.
