But Specs....you didn't pay your federal income taxes with the expectation of going to the Courthouse on a specific date and for a specific purpose with the acceptance of your tax payment constituting an implied agreement by the governing authorities that your expectations would be met. But you already knew that when you posted. So why not simply acknowledge that one cannot reasonably defend an airline that takes money for a flight; cancels the flight; and, insists on keeping the money!! I received my money back from Delta easily and as the US and EU it's mandatory. When they cancel the service incompletely (ie Wabush) it's a pretty "dick" move to give only a credit. They are going to have to rebook on PAL id they want to fly and lots of people don't have the extra cash to have a credit and then book more tickets, especially in this economic crisis.They can always use the credit if they really want to but the flights are just a small cost of a "fun" trip. Going to see family in Wabush where you're staying with family is a very different financially than going on a lholiday. There's some day it's clear this forum forgets that the average median after tax income is approx. $61K and that 53% of the population loves paycheque to paycheque. From what I've read I can't recall any airline out that willingly refunded customers money without being assured of, or actually receiving, financial aid from their government. And why should they? We can't give John Q Public his money back because we'll probably go bankrupt if the Gov't doesn't at the very least give us the money we paid out beforehand to meet the operating requirements they (and in a sense John Q Public) stipulated for us to offer that service, and also compensate our shareholders for the losses they will sustain by taking away our ability to conduct business. As it stands, would we even have enough to pay back all ticket holders or just a portion of them? As far as I'm concerned - Ticketholders should go after the government to get their money back. In the EU Lufthansa and Air France got Billions in government Aid as well. Alitalia got aid recently. The Govt of Portugal upped their stake in TAP to 72%. I have lost track of how mch other countries are doing to support thie carriers. The Canadian government has offered nothing remotely similar.
