Age 68 in Japan

Recommended Posts

Received today from a recruiter:

Should the pilot wish to continue to work with Peach after turning 65 a series of 1-year renewable contracts can be issued each year until the pilot turns 68, which is the legal maximum pilot age in Japan

Hey Blues, was this info from the company or though a pilot placement agency?

Thanks

Further info:

Osaka based requirement for  rated and non-rated A320 Captains. Permanent contracts to age 65. Signing bonus up to $17000US.

I would say the pilot shortage is about to get serious. Southwest just signed a 10 year deal with CAE to train 700 cadet pilots. Although the SW payscale is good they are at the bottom end of the US food chain.

I’d say it was serious when pilots can negotiate their own T&Cs. That’s not happening yet.

Is anyone aware of a lobby to change the age 65 restriction with ICAO?

I believe that there was an aeromedical risk assessment conducted either out of the UK or by EASA that assigned too high a probability of on duty health related issues for post age 65 pilots. Don’t have the link though.

Not sure where ICAO is on this.
