I’m delighted to see some of these cold cases being solved decades after the fact and can only imagine the sense of closure (or maybe relief) that it would bring to surviving family members. Given some of these time frames, perhaps many relatives had all but given up hope of ever finding the person responsible. It’s a wonderful use of technology and I wish the media would stop advertising the fact that the DNA was obtained via ancestry and genealogy companies.

B.C. judge rules father guilty of “family violence” for calling trans son “she”

Justice Francesca Marzari, a British Columbia Supreme Court Justice, ruled last week that the father of a 14-year-old transgender boy (biological female) was guilty of “family violence” for refusing to affirm his daughter’s male gender identity.

The father, who is anonymously listed as “C.D.” throughout the court document to protect the identity of “A.B.,” his daughter, is also banned from discussing the ruling publicly in order to prevent A.B. from being “exposed” to hurtful writing or commentary that does not affirm her gender identity.

The ban applies for a one year period but may be extended by the court. It prevents C.D. from “directly, or indirectly through an agent or third party, publishing or sharing information or documentation relating to A.B.’s sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, mental or physical health, medical status or therapies.”

Back in February of this year, as previously reported by The Post Millennial, another B.C. Supreme Court Judge ruled that A.B could receive hormone injections to aid her transition despite not having her father’s consent.

From the "what did you think was going to happen?" file.

I used to ask liberal acquaintances how shipping garbage overseas could be considered recycling. The mere suggestion that it wasn't would get you scolded (as a minimum) or a well deserved beating with an organic carrot (at worst). Most concerning of all is that none of them seemed to be bothered by the fact that it was all an illusion. It reminds me of the VW diesel scandal, most shrugged it off as if it didn't even matter.

If your only justification for a bad tactical plan (that leaves most middle school students sceptical) is: "we have to do something".... please, (please, please, please) don't ever enter a Recruiting Centre.

I buy nothing from China.... I would rather eat boiled grass and squirrels. The local produce manager runs when he sees me coming. I have a two word message for China and all things Chinese, can you guess?... yes, it might be "don't buy" or maybe, perhaps, it's more likely to be "go away quickly."

Any Chinese tourist caught taking pictures in Canada should be detained as an enemy spy.... one of the few capital offences left on the books.

It might just be me and my lack of economic acumen but it's worrisome (I think) when things that probably should make sense just don't:

"Alberta's persistently low oil and gas prices have claimed another victim as Calgary-based Trident Exploration ceased operations this week."

"For the third time this week, gas prices in the Metro Vancouver area broke records. With prices hovering at 168.9 cents per litre, filling up a car in Vancouver has never been more expensive."

No more religious exemptions: Montreal is taxing churches

Churches in Montreal are becoming concerned about hosting community groups after being hit with bills for municipal taxes.

Joel Coppetiers, the Minister at the Cote des Neiges Presbyterian church, was shocked when his institution first received a municipal tax bill in early 2015.

It was "the first indication that something had changed," said Coppetiers.

Provincial law exempts churches and manses from paying municipal taxes but Coppetiers was told that if a manse is vacant for several months between ministers, it's taxable.

Following that, city officials arrived for an inspection of every room in the church and how they were used.

"The indication is there's not an exemption for the church as a whole, there's only an exemption for those areas used for public worship and things directly related to it," said Coppetiers.

As a result, many churches in Montreal that host community groups, such as food banks, or Girl Guides or Boy Scouts, are facing mounting tax bills.

OTTAWA TEACHER: 'There is no such thing as girls and boys'

The parents of a six-year-old Ottawa girl have filed a complaint with the Human Rights Tribunal because of her teacher’s odd ideas on gender theory.

According to The Post Millennial, Jason and Pamela Buffone — acting for their daughter, “N” — are taking the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board to the tribunal.

They are alleging discrimination on the basis of gender and gender identity in contravention of the Human Rights Code.

But wait: “N” doesn’t identity as transgender or anything else besides the little girl she is.

According to the website, in January 2018, her Grade 1 class at Devonshire Community Public School were made to watch a YouTube video as part of the lesson plan on gender.

The title: “He, She and They?!?—Gender: Queer Kid Stuff #2.”

Post Millennial said the video contained statements like:

  • “Some people aren’t boys or girls” and that they don’t “feel like a ‘she’ or a ‘he.’”
  • The unnamed teacher apparently kept driving the issue with her class of six-year-olds.
  • The teacher reportedly told the kids “there is no such thing as girls and boys,” and “girls are not real and boys are not real.”

At home, the parents say, the little girl kept asking why her identity as a girl “wasn’t real,” wanted to go to a doctor to determine if she was a girl and said she wasn’t sure if she wanted to be a mommy.
