blues deville
I like their matt black painted 737 but certainly not the first one capable of gravel strip operation. That distinction goes to ND and their customer optioned PWJT89-D engined -200’s that tested the newly Boeing invented vortex dissipator. The first set of BMO financed engines sucked every piece of gravel off a Moses Lake ramp. https://www.skiesmag.com/press-releases/chrono-aviation-unveils-its-first-boeing-737-200/?utm_source=skies-daily-news-top-story&utm_campaign=skies-daily-news&utm_medium=email&utm_term=top-story&utm_content=V1
Kip Powick
I'm not a racist but "black" ??? Gonna be some hot in the T-Rex when sitting in the sun and hot for the techs if they have to do work on the outside airframe is the world’s only Boeing model that’s able to take off from and land on 5,000-foot unpaved strips. .... think the author is referring to the fact that the model 737-200 with the engine vortex dissipator and nose gear gravel deflector was the ONLY Boeing built that can operate off gravel, not that CHRONO has the world's only Boeing that can operate off gravel. I guess it depends on how you read the sentence and where you but the emphasis on some of the words.... Anyhow...it was the "funnest" Boeing to fly.... Guest
re black . Good to show up against snow but you do have to wonder how it will fare on a dimly lit ramp / unloading area .

blues deville
Interesting aircraft history with much of it in NZ. The article is not the most accurate bit of journalism as it’s not a jumbo and B727’s are also capable of gravel runway operations. Black is certainly the least popular color for airplanes but perhaps it’s planned northern charter work will allow the sun to help keep it warm on a frozen ramp.
