John S.
It would be fun to fly under the Lions Gate Bridge and not have to worry about extra paperwork! From the article:"While floatplane pilots will train in simulated, high-resolution reproductions of Victoria and Vancouver harbours, and on nearby Cowichan Lake where glassy water landings can be practiced, Coughlin said that pilots will still need actual time in a float-equipped Twin Otter." Thank heavens.
Moon The Loon
I wish Viking would take as much interest in the one and only Dash 7 simulator operated by Flight Safety International at Downsview. It's the worst simulator I've experienced in 40 years of training. It maintains the ancient philosophy that the sim needs to be unstable as opposed to modern simulation where the simulator flies like the airplane. The current simulator provides negative training. FSI has a stake in this: It's the only DH7 simulator in the world - why fix it?
boestar
isn't that the picture in the first post? you know the sim doesn't actually have floats, right?
Bobcaygeon
You still need time in the aircraft as they weren't able to accurately replicate the burning sensation on your eyeballs as you ingest large quantities of Jet A exhaust while docking the aircraft. I don’t recall that ever being an issue.

They also aren't able to accurately simulate having the dockhand/crewman/FO open his door, climb out onto the float and crawl under the running prop, go in the right rear door and out the left rear door to tie up when the aircraft is packed to the rafters and there's no room to get past the cargo.
