blues deville
Nice poster for contaminated runway training. I wonder what surface condition was advertised on YVR’s ATIS?
boestar
One of the certification tests for the aircraft is SPECIFICALLY so this does not happen. Interesting
J.O.
Those tests don’t cover slush ingestion, only water. It was very slushy yesterday.
Zan Vetter
I hear they ordered a half dozen of these babies. Used, from Australia, naturally.

blues deville
B767 limitation for standing water or slush is 1/2” or 13mm. If a nose wheel’s water/slush spray flames out an engine, I’d say it was easily that amount or more. Again, YVR should have closed the runway. GTFA
I wonder if any pilots questioned the "depth of contaminant" based on the reported conditions? PIREPS?

Carolers in every corner of the building. Sarcasm definitely intended.
blues deville
Maybe send the guy in the red suit with “his” vehicle out to see if it rolls or grinds to a halt after application of take off power.

mrlupin
The reindeers have decent traction in slush... no comparison there...
Kip Powick
Apparently this is an actual photo of the left engine problem in YVR
acsidestick
Kip, it’s a still taken from the actual video. Have a look here from CTV News https://bc.ctvnews.ca/air-canada-flight-forced-to-abort-takeoff-due-to-snow-1.3728940
blues deville
That’s quite a video and the runway (26L?) should have definitely been closed until it was properly cleaned. Five hours on the runway? Looked like a low speed reject due to compressor stall. No fire after the take off was stopped.
J.O.
YVR doesn’t really understand winter. Never has, and probably never will.
vanishing point
That may be true but they shouldn't be surprised when it arrives EVERY YEAR!!!
thinair
Wow! Talk about trying to "make news" out of a natural weather event, however rare in a place like Vancouver...even referring to the airport as yvr as if everyone should know its the airport. Media smugness at its finest. Perhaps they should ask T junior to apologize to the inconvenienced.
J.O.
If you have a point, it seems to be getting by some of us. Nonetheless, I’ve quickly learned that the majority of wet coast locals refer to their airport as “YVR”.
Fido
YVR is a lot more on point than Lester B Pearson Airport.
runaway
https://bc.ctvnews.ca/air-canada-flight-forced-to-abort-takeoff-due-to-snow-1.3728940 "There was an Air Canada flight that the pilot decided not to take off and he aborted the flight and that can happen for any number of reasons," said Steve Hankinson, YVR's vice-president of operations. Obviously Steve didn't know the reason....not!
