As the Liberal government gets set to bring at least 300,000 immigrants to Canada next year, experts say a more robust integration strategy is needed to ensure their economic success and prevent a public backlash.

This week Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen will unveil immigration levels for 2018, including targets for the number of economic migrants, family reunifications and refugees who will be permitted into the country.

He confirmed the number will not dip below what he called the "new normal" of 300,000 set in 2017.

Hussen called immigration a "big tool" to power Canada's economy and address demographic challenges, including those in Atlantic Canada, at a time of falling fertility and an aging population.

"The plan will continue to have a vast majority of immigrants coming in the economic class, because that is where the greatest need is, followed very closely by family class immigrants and then making sure that we continue to have space in our immigration levels plan for refugees that we resettle from abroad," he told CBC Radio's The House.

at a time of falling fertility and an aging population?  Aging population yes but the latest stats Canada report show rising fertility in at least 2 groups.  The new wave of immigrants at 300,000 a year will def. continue to change the ethnic composite of our current population and perhaps that is where the directions the Liberals are going.

Rather than bringing in 300,000 new comers, why not spend the money to support our growing Aboriginal population, 42.5% increase in Indigenous population since 2006, (housing, job training etc.) so as to add skilled workers from our current population?  Increase family allowances to encourage other Canadians to have more children with some financial support to be able to do so (perhaps more stay at home parents)? Just imagine the added value of new Canadians born here, speaking English / French and other languages , comfortable or at least knowledgeable with our culture.

This gets back to another philosophy of reducing taxes and let the people that earned the money, spend it as they see fit. If people weren't so cash strapped, they might have more kids, might travel more, might buy more household goods etc, intstead of the govt confiscating it to further their social engineering agenda.

There really was not much of an increase in aboriginals just in people self-identifying as aboriginal to try and get on the gravy train.

Canada needs something like 2.1 kids per household to maintain static economic growth.  We are now producing less than that.  this makes immigration necessary to make up the shortfall.  Otherwise the aging population will suck the coffers dry because there is not enough people to maintain them.  The entire global economy is based on GROWTH. If Canadians don;t start screwing then the growth will come from elsewhere.

"There really was not much of an increase in aboriginals just in people self-identifying as aboriginal to try and get on the gravy train."

I can't stand being screwed over for being a heterosexual white male any longer and even though it's unlikely that I possess a single Native gene, I intend to climb aboard that gravy train too in the 2017 tax year.

"The entire global economy is based on GROWTH. If Canadians don;t start screwing then the growth will come from elsewhere."

That's what the globalists would have us believe, but if you take a real economist to task, they tend to agree that today's system is completely over loaded with 'dependant' working age persons who are stealing the benefits away from retiring seniors and every working person.

Honest, competent politicians and community leaders would have served our purposes far better than 'any' model of growth.

Remember it's not who or what you are, it's who/what you want to identify as.
