blues deville
Seattle's Museum of Flight is once again restoring a classic aircraft to its original look with a long time member receiving a face lift.
DEFCON
What an aircraft! Do you know if it's a 'G' model Blues? Maybe it's the angle of the pictures, but the fuselage on this bird doesn't look all that wrinkled?

DEFCON
Thanks Malcolm. And there's only 15K on the machine too.
Maverick
I spent the last few months working at Paine Field and I would see it everyday. This is a pic I took last December before they (obviously) started the resto.
blues deville
A family friend is quite active with the MOF and responsible for bringing several of the aircraft to the Boeing museum. The B52 repaint was quite a challenge and had to be done outside. Local authorities had to approve the work and a taxiway at the airport was blocked off so they could strip, sand and repaint the B52. J.O.
This was certainly the year to do it. There hasn't been any measurable rain on the west coast in 2 months.

The Museum of Flight is at Boeing Field and unless the plan is to drag it down I-5 it'll have to stay at Paine Field. Maybe a one time flight to Boeing Field like they did with the first B-727 a few years ago.

Maybe a one time flight to Boeing Field like they did with the first B-727 a few years ago. Let me find out as I'm getting updates daily on the re-paint progress. Their home page states they are the "custodian" of this B52 so I assumed it would end up at the MOF. The UA 727 was quite a process with lots of waivers and FAA approvals for the short 727 ferry. A gear locked down, flap 20 take off & landing. FedEx donated the engines.
blues deville
Maverick, apparently after this restoration and repaint it will be moved from Paine Field to the MOF by surface in summer 2018. I guess not the first time a Boeing has been seen on the roads around Seattle. http://www.museumofflight.org/Explore-The-Museum/Vietnam-Air-War-Memorial-Park

QFE
A lot of planes have been nick named "death tubes", however, I think the B52 actually earned the name. Its a good thing Cruz never got control of them.

Tango Niner
Not many aircraft types have examples being preserved and restored as artifacts of history while other examples are actively serving at the same time: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2d_Bomb_Wing Amazing!
