Trudeau to pay Omar Kadir $10.5M for suffering at Guantanamo

Canadians are now apologizing to and financially compensating a convicted terrorist. Sadly what I've come to expect in Canada in 2017.

It's only an opinion, but a growing number of PM Trudeau's actions can't be classified as anything but an affront to intelligent thought, decency & Canadian values in general.

Wouldn't Trudeau have to possess these qualities first? You can't make a chocolate sundae out of a piece of **bleep** no matter how hard you try.

Too Harsh.  He is nothing more or less than a "Rich" kid having a great time, enjoying his "Selfies" and fancy socks while spending our hard earned cash, you  do have to wonder, what if..... what if all Canadians who were eligible to vote did????? :D

I don't agree that Jaydee was being too harsh on the pinhead, but the remainder of your thought was right on imo.

ANY GOVERNMENT THAT CARES MORE FOR FOREIGNERS AND THEIR INTERESTS THAN THEY DO FOR THEIR OWN PEOPLE IS NO GOVERNMENT AT ALL.

Not knowing what the word 'work' means, Trudeau has zero appreciation for the guy that is and will be donating to foot the bill to cover the huge costs associated with all his junkets, parties & the donations granted in support of his highly questionable and even anti - Canadian causes.

Trudeau must go!

It is the job of every Conservative to convince just one other Canadian to vote Conservative and the country can then send Trudeau to obscurity once and for all.

I hope Scheer takes Trudeau to the wall over this!

Senator Denise Waters

" This CTV News report says: "Publicly available records show Khadr's team and federal government lawyers met in Ottawa a few weeks ago for mediation." When did PM Trudeau agree to Omar Khadr's $10.5 million payout? Was Parliament still sitting, and this explosive information was kept under wraps to avoid difficult questions in Question Period and in national media scrums? Or, did Trudeau agree to this payout prior to Canada Day, and kept it quiet so that he and his Liberal MPs weren't faced with Canadians' outrage at large, public events?

Here's the bio of the mother of Canada's first family of terrorism:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maha_el-Samnah

interesting factoid....Chrétien could be held accountable for the present mess because he pressured Pakistan to release Omar's father from jail...the father then goes on to fight for the Taliban will little Omar in tow.

Mother Kadhr can't receive anymore passports because they kept "losing" them....gee I wonder where they went??

Still living on welfare in Scarborough I presume.....and if they hate the great western satan...why do they stay here (we can only speculate)??

Someone had better get all that money into an escrow account before the filthy little urchin sends it all off to the taliban and eliminates any chance for the American victims of his crimes to get the recovery matter before our Courts.

I placed a 'like' on the political cartoon you posted above even though it makes me a little uncomfortable doing so. I think the meme is perhaps the most poignant I've ever seen, probably because it captures the essence of Trudeau's heartless insult to everything decent so completely.

Petition against Omar Khadr’s $10M payout gains more than 50,000 signatures

WATCH: Omar Khadr is set to receive an apology and a cheque, but as Reid Fiest reports, the Canadian government has yet to confirm the settlement.

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) is pushing for the federal government to revoke its $10.5-million settlement to Omar Khadr.

The federation says a petition it launched following Tuesday’s news that Canada will apologize to Khadr has gained more than 52,000 signatures.

“With over 52,000 names in under 48 hours, it is clear this issue has struck a nerve,” CTF federal director Aaron Wudrick said in a press release Thursday. “The notion of giving $10 million in taxpayer money to Khadr is so outrageous that many Canadians are simply beside themselves.”

The petition, posted online at Taxpayer.com, is addressed to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. It says the payout to Khadr is “offensive” to Canadians.

“Mr.Khadr admitted to killing an American soldier while fighting with al-Qaeda in Afghanistan in 2002,” it reads. “Canadians should not be forced to pay millions of dollars to a killer.”

The CTF added in the press release that it will present the petition to the Trudeau government.

The federal government’s decision to apologize and pay Khadr — a Canadian who spent 10 years at the U.S. military prison in Guantanamo Bay — has been largely praised by advocacy organizations and lawyers.

“Canada has a history of recognizing and apologizing when it has made mistakes,” Toronto-based lawyer, Warda Shazadi Meighen, told Global News.

“This settlement is a recognition of the fact that we have standards in Canada.”

It has also received some backlash from the Conservative Party.

Tory MP Michelle Rempel tweeted her criticism of the decision Tuesday, saying the government is rewarding a “convicted killer.”

The prime minister, who was in Ireland when the news broke, has been relatively mum on the issue.

“There is a judicial process underway that has been underway for a number of years now,” Trudeau said during a press conference in Dublin.

“We are anticipating, like I think a number of people are, that that judicial process is coming to its conclusion.”

Trudeau will no doubt blame the payout/apology on the insensitive poor handling of the file by the conservatives and re-emphasize the need for deprogramming radical youth.....standby for a huge beauracracy announcement $$$$$$$$$.

Talking with someone who is familiar with the file and the constitution they say:

Walk it back.

1.  The Conservatives paid Arar the same amount so the 10.5 was established

2.  The Supreme Court had already ruled that the Canadian Charter or Rights and Freedoms applied in cases such as these

3.  The start goes all the way back to Trudeau senior and the crap that made it into our constitution.

Until last week, Khadr’s $20 million lawsuit against the Canadian government had been proceeding slowly along the long path to judicial resolution—a path it’d been on for more than a decade. There was no court order requiring payment and the government could have continued defending the claim for years to come. That’s why reports of a sudden settlement caught everyone by surprise.

Everyone, that is, except the prime minister. Asked about the $10.5 million payout during his visit to Ireland, Trudeau made it sound as inevitable and ineluctable as the turning of the tides: “We are anticipating,” he said, “like I think a number of people are, that that judicial process is coming to its conclusion.”

Yup ..cheque issued and cashed immediately....and no taxes due....there were alternatives that Trudeau could have pursued, but as usual, a non answer.

..I think the public backlash will hold Trudeau accountable and he will wear this into the next election.

The problem is Trudeau is made of teflon and everything slides off him. ...or another way to put it is...The Canadian voting public are downright oblivious to reality.

Talking to people in small town Ontario...they are **bleep** with this latest one...workers who are part time...can't get full time struggling to get by,  and Trudeau hands this terrorist 10 mill....I don't think it's going to be accepted.
