BC Election finally over ?

Recommended Posts

One little miss-step for the Dippers and they lose.

The situation is now 43 Liberals (conservatives)  and 43 Dipper-Greenies.

Every vote is a potential tie.

I would bet that there is a least one Dipper-Greenie who will get **bleep** off or decide to be a king maker and the whole thing goes to 44 Liberals and a majority or to an immediate election or .....

This situation will not last 4 years  4 months might be closer to reality.

43 Libs...44 Others.

And one of the 44 has to be the speaker of the house, so the end result will be all votes could end in a tie but then

Quote

Officers of the House
– The Speaker is an MLA selected by the other
Members of the Legislative Assembly to oversee
debates and make sure the House follows
established rules of behaviour and parliamentary
procedure. The Speaker is neutral and only votes to
break a tie.

Not necessarily. The Speaker can come from any of the parties. Traditionally...it's the governing party.

In this instance, I can't see anyone in the Opposition stepping up for selection.

Neutral, until it matters...which should happen regularly.

That I knew, but of course the Libs will not likely step up but the Speaker could be "Green" as they are in my count of 44 and that could yield some interesting tie breaker voting. :D

If there were no parties and the leader was elected by a vote of the respective House, the system would probably function a whole lot smoother and become considerably more cost effective and productive than it is now.
