737 Landing | Early Reverser Deployment?

Good technique if you know exactly where the wheels are but if you misjudge - not so much.  Used to lift the Power Levers in the old King Air I flew to get ground idle in the flare - shortens the landing distance significantly.  Of course all you're really doing if trying to fix the "error" of carrying too much speed into the flare with another bad technique.

FWIW................

Apparently the newer 737's are permitted to activate reverse thrust when below 10 feet AGL. (RA activated)

The "squat" switch is no longer required to be depressed.........the new electronic wizardry figures out when you are at 10 feet  AGL or lower and unlocks the reverser gate.

Many videos of the B737 doing so on the flare...before touch down....From what I can gather one reason for the new  new system was put in place when a pilot had such a "greaser"  that the squat switch, for some reason, did not activate and the aircraft went of the end.......slowly.

With altitude, (AGL), sensing and the squat switch, there should be no reason now  for not being not being able to  employ  reverse thrust.

B737 FCOM:

The thrust reverser can be deployed when either radio altimeter senses less than 10 feet altitude, or when the air/ground safety sensor is in the ground mode. Movement of the reverse thrust levers is mechanically restricted until the forward thrust levers are in the idle position.
