Seeker
From the CBC article: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/air-canada-ac623-slid-off-runway-1.3999438 The incident appeared to have damaged the undercarriage of the plane, passenger Paul Varian told CBC. "The whole of the undercarriage on my side, on the left-hand side, when we took a look while we were deplaning was destroyed. The tires were completely gone off the wheel," he said. Ahhh, no Paul, the undercarriage was not destroyed and the tires were not gone - flat but not gone. This is why you don't listen to anything non-expert witnesses say. The only one with no CL lights and the second shortest runway at YYZ. Based on runway surface winds, YYZ will use 15L/R for late night arrivals for noise. But it was always my experience and without fail to have some tailwind component most of the way down on those approaches after midnight. Crazy winter weather. Metars (Airport: Toronto, Lester B. A dramatic weather and wind change was forecast at 1500z with ragged ceilings and gusty SW winds. By the time we were on the arrival the ATIS was advertising an ILS24R and ATC advised expect only delaying vectors versus holding due to an earlier backlog of arrivals. And apparently YYZ's local wildlife was also back in the sky as the tower controller advised "lots of bird activity from 1000' to the runway". Other than the permanent ATIS bird comment, I don't think I've ever heard that kind of a warning from YYZ before.
