Michael Cohen says rigging polls 'was at the direction of' Trump

A former lawyer for U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday he paid a firm to manipulate online polling data "at the direction of and for the sole benefit of" Trump.

Michael Cohen, a former lawyer for U.S. President Donald Trump, said on Thursday he paid a firm to manipulate online polling data "at the direction of and for the sole benefit of" Trump.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Cohen had paid the data firm Redfinch Solutions to manipulate two public opinion polls in favour of Trump before the 2016 presidential campaign.

"What I did was at the direction of and for the sole benefit of" Trump, Cohen later responded on Twitter after the Journal published the story. "I truly regret my blind loyalty to a man who doesn't deserve it."

The attempts to influence the polls ultimately proved largely unsuccessful but they shed a light on the tactics of the Trump campaign and Cohen's role within it. On the campaign trail, Trump frequently referred to his polling numbers to help fuel his candidacy.

Last month, Cohen was sentenced to three years in prison for his role in making illegal hush-money payments to women to help Trump's 2016 campaign and lying to Congress about a proposed Trump Tower project in Russia.

Cohen has said Trump had directed him to commit the campaign-finance violations, which Trump has denied.

The Journal said Cohen commissioned John Gauger, who runs RedFinch Solutions, to write a computer script to repeatedly vote for Trump in a February 2015 Drudge Report poll on potential Republican candidates. The move came as Trump was preparing to enter the 2016 presidential election race, the newspaper reported.

Trump ranked fifth in the Drudge Report poll, with about 24,000 votes or five per cent of the total, according to the Journal.

John Gauger, the founder of IT company Redfinch Solutions, was paid by Cohen to influence two online polls — one from Drudge Report and another from CNBC. (LinkedIn Corporation)

Cohen also commissioned Gauger to do the same for a 2014 CNBC online poll identifying the country's top business leaders, although Trump was unable to break the top 100 candidates, the Journal reported.

"The president has no knowledge of the polls being rigged," Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani said in an interview with Reuters.

Blue Walmart bag of cash

Trump tweeted about the CNBC poll on business leaders after it was released in March 2014, calling it "a joke" and suggested he was removed from the list because of "politics."

Reuters was not immediately able to confirm the details of the newspaper report. Cohen did not immediately respond to a request for comment, and neither did representatives for RedFinch Solutions and the Trump Organization. Charles James, a lawyer for Gauger, declined to comment.

According to the Journal, Gauger said Cohen handed him cash out of a blue Walmart bag, although not for the total amount he was owed. Cohen also promised Gauger work on the Trump campaign that never materialized, the Journal reported.

Cohen worked for Trump for many years as his self-proclaimed fixer, and once said he would take a bullet for Trump.

But the relationship has since publicly soured. Trump has called Cohen a "rat," while Cohen has co-operated with special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation of links between the Trump campaign and Russia during the campaign. Both Trump and Moscow have denied any wrongdoing.

Cohen has also agreed to testify publicly in front of the House of Representatives' oversight committee in a hearing scheduled to take place next month.

Even Rudy is walking back his statements.  Any guess what's coming???

Rudolph W. Giuliani claimed Wednesday night that he “never said there was no collusion” between President Trump’s campaign and Russia leading up to the 2016 presidential election.

In a remarkable, at times contentious interview with CNN’s Chris Cuomo, the president’s lawyer was accused of contradicting his own past statements about collusion as well as what Trump and his supporters have repeatedly asserted. On Twitter, Trump has used the phrase “no collusion” dozens of times, and a number of those instances were direct denials that his campaign was involved with the Russian government.

Giuliani’s shocking declarations — several of which Cuomo called out as being false — quickly sent the Internet into a tailspin as many wondered what could have prompted the former New York mayor to suddenly change course.

More lies being exposed to daylight...

President Donald Trump directed his longtime attorney Michael Cohen to lie to Congress about negotiations to build a Trump Tower in Moscow, according to two federal law enforcement officials involved in an investigation of the matter.

Trump also supported a plan, set up by Cohen, to visit Russia during the presidential campaign, in order to personally meet President Vladimir Putin and jump-start the tower negotiations. “Make it happen,” the sources said Trump told Cohen.

And even as Trump told the public he had no business deals with Russia, the sources said Trump and his children, Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr., received regular, detailed updates about the real estate development from Cohen, whom they put in charge of the project.

Cohen pleaded guilty in November to lying about the deal in testimony and in a two-page statement to the Senate and House intelligence committees. Special counsel Robert Mueller noted that Cohen’s false claim that the project ended in January 2016 was an attempt to "minimize links between the Moscow Project and Individual 1” — widely understood to be Trump — "in hopes of limiting the ongoing Russia investigations.”

Now the two sources have told BuzzFeed News that Cohen also told the special counsel that after the election, the president personally instructed him to lie — by claiming that negotiations ended months earlier than they actually did — in order to obscure Trump’s involvement.

The special counsel’s office learned about Trump’s directive for Cohen to lie to Congress through interviews with multiple witnesses from the Trump Organization and internal company emails, text messages, and a cache of other documents. Cohen then acknowledged those instructions during his interviews with that office.

This revelation is not the first evidence to suggest the president may have attempted to obstruct the FBI and special counsel investigations into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election.

But Cohen's testimony marks a significant new frontier: It is the first known example of Trump explicitly telling a subordinate to lie directly about his own dealings with Russia.

I am encouraged....

Don't get too encouraged. So far we have 131 pages of nothing; I eagerly await the first actual piece of evidence before battery failure. Currently, Democrats with their hair on fire are lighting up the room.

Pelosi cancels Afghan trip after Trump 'leaks' security details

US Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi has cancelled plans to visit American troops in Afghanistan due to claims the White House "leaked" her security plan.

The news comes one day after Mr Trump banned the Democratic delegation from using a military aircraft for the trip.

Mrs Pelosi's spokesman said on Friday that security officials had determined that Mr Trump's announcement "had significantly increased the danger".

The row rages on on the 28th day of a US partial government shutdown.

House of Representatives Speaker Pelosi's spokesman said that after Mr Trump revoked use of a military aircraft "multiple" White House officials then leaked her plan to fly Democratic members of Congress on a commercial airline to Afghanistan.

Drew Hammill said in a statement: "In the middle of the night, the State Department's Diplomatic Security Service provided an updated threat assessment detailing that the President announcing this sensitive travel had significantly increased the danger to the delegation and to the troops, security, and other officials supporting the trip."

"In light of the grave threats caused by the President's action, the delegation has decided to postpone the trip so as not to further endanger our troops and security personnel, or the other travellers on the flights."

A senior White House official denied the report, telling the BBC: "When the Speaker of the house and about 20 others from Capitol Hill decide to book their own commercial flights to Afghanistan, the world is going to find out.

"The idea we would leak anything that would put the safety and security of any American at risk is an offensive flat out lie."

On Friday, Mr Trump took to Twitter to further attack Mrs Pelosi over the "seven day excursion" to a warzone.

China offers to ramp up U.S. imports for six years to eliminate trade imbalance, sources say

By buying a $1 trillion more of U.S. goods a year, China could reduce trade surplus to zero by 2024, Bloomberg told

China has offered to go on a six-year buying spree to ramp up imports from the U.S., in a move that would reconfigure the relationship between the world’s two largest economies, according to officials familiar with the negotiations.

By increasing goods imports from the U.S. by a combined value of more than US$1 trillion over that period, China would seek to reduce its trade surplus — which last year stood at US$323 billion — to zero by 2024, one of the people said. The officials asked not to be named as the discussions aren’t public.

The offer, made during talks in Beijing earlier this month, was met with skepticism by U.S. negotiators who nonetheless asked the Chinese to do even better, demanding that the imbalance be cleared in the next two years, the people said.

Economists who’ve studied the trade relationship argue it would be hard to eliminate the gap, which they say is sustained in large part by U.S. demand for Chinese products.

U.S. stocks extended gains and the dollar rose following the news. The S&P 500 Index rallied, climbing 1.2 per cent by 11:31 a.m. and heading for its fourth weekly increase, while the dollar traded at session highs.

More lies being exposed to daylight...

So it appears......

The U.S. special counsel's office has issued a rare public statement disputing the accuracy of a news report saying that President Donald Trump told his personal attorney Michael Cohen to lie to Congress.

'Article about testimony of Trump's former lawyer 'not accurate,' says spokesperson'

According to the article...

"The statement by Mueller's office on Friday night doesn't cite any specific errors, but the special counsel's spokesman, Peter Carr, said, "BuzzFeed's description of specific statements to the special counsel's office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen's congressional testimony are not accurate.""

Will have to see how it really plays out, however they didn't deny the allegations, just said they are 'not accurate'.

Like everything Mueller has done, they are playing it close to their chest and don't want to expose sources. As in everything political, words have specific meanings.

As for the truth of it, doesn't the FBI have all of Cohen's tapes and records?

"Loose Lips Sink Ships"

Says silly old Nancy.

It's kind of odd don't you think that Pelosi would book tickets for a bag of well known government lefties over the phone and then claim the Administration leaked their travel plans?

Is there any more fake news for Friday?

Did you hear Malcolm; the life raft carrying the so-called 'smart rats' has sunk?

Most have made it to shore and I am sure more will follow. Here is a BBC article on the escapees and those where fired.

Donald Trump's administration has had a very high turnover - with senior officials quitting, being fired or getting eased out at a record pace.

Here is a run-down of what they did, and why they left, starting with the most recent.

Some of these departures are for obvious reasons and others are a little mysterious, but I think the never ending expressions of hate from lefties probably takes quite a toll on family life and  drives exceptionally competent people like Nikki Haley to leave.

Re the never ending expressions of hate, you are probably correct but I suspect the main reason is  / was that Trump is extremely difficulty to work with, does not accept advice and is entirely unpredictable.
