Less than a week after Air Georgian took over the Charlottetown to Toronto route for Air Canada, Air Canada has cancelled Air Georgian flights and taken them over itself.

Air Georgian took over the route May 1, and there have since been delays and cancellations on the Charlottetown-Toronto route, says Charlottetown Airport CEO Doug Newson. One flight on Sunday was delayed more than seven hours, and there were delays Monday as well.

Air Canada told CBC News Monday it would take over operation of the route to ensure prompt service. On Tuesday six original Toronto-Charlottetown flights were showing as cancelled on the Charlottetown Airport web site. They were replaced by other flights, most running 20 minutes to an hour later.

Those planes are operated by Air Canada, said Newson.

There seems to have been some issues with this Air Georgian stuff. I notice that in the past week or so there have been a few emergency decisions of the Canadian Transportation Agency permitting Air Canada to use Regional 1 aircraft and crews for a week or two. I assumed this was related.

Air Georgian took on the flights in an agreement with Air Canada on May 1, and during the first few days of the month many flights had long delays or were cancelled outright.

On May 6, Air Canada began operating the flights itself while the situation was being resolved.

As of Tuesday, Air Georgian is once again operating some of the Air Canada flights. Charlottetown Airport CEO Doug Newson is not expecting any further issues.

"So far today, everything looks pretty much on schedule," Newson told CBC News Tuesday.

"Air Georgian is back operating a full flight schedule as of today and so we do expect things to resume to normal as of today and moving forward."

Newson said even if there are no cancellations right now, passengers should always check their flight status in advance.

You get what you pay for. This includes Air Canada.

Perhaps but AC has the fleet to back up and correct a problem...

Longtimer,

AC created the problem by transferring the route to Georgian.

You are missing the point of my post....
