Guest
Good grief, the man is chastized for not getting help. Now he realizes he needs it after another situation, and he is chastized again, this time for deciding to get help!
J.O.
Oh please, any decent man would have stepped away and got real help months ago. He made his bed, it's time to lay in it.
inchman
Given the Ford Bro's history to date, I wonder if this is all planned as part of the re-election campaign... "Look... the NEW and IMPROVED Rob Ford!" If not, they will certainly portray it as such. And there will be those that will buy it.... too many, I'm afraid. Guest
Oh please, any decent man would have stepped away and got real help months ago. He made his bed, it's time to lay in it.I assume you have never had first hand dealings with alocoholism or substance abuse. The person with the problem is always the last one to admit there is a problem, many if not most, will not seek help until they hit their rock bottom. That rock bottom can be very different to every individual. Maybe Ford's night the other night may have been his rock bottom, that is something we will never know.I have a family member who had a serious drug problem, my ex wife is an alcoholic, everything I see in Ford's demeanor and his denial, I have seen before. When this story broke months ago, so many said he needed to take a leave and get help, now he has done so, and now I see people ridiculing him for doing so. In reality, everyone should be taking a collective sigh and hope the rehab works and he can stay clean. I can tell you from experience he will stumble again, but I hope he does not. I could not care less about his politics, i just feel bad watching him spin out of control

Hopefully he can get healthy and then see what his future brings. He's most definitely an idiot, and an addict, and a two-bit thug who consorts with drug dealers and a good deal of other known criminals besides. Good riddance.
J.O.
I've known a few people with addictions and none of them ever displayed Rob Ford's "qualities" as a human being. In fact, they were decent, hard working, loving people and I liked them a lot. I admit that I don't care for Rob Ford. He's a terrible leader who does politics by division and runs roughshod over anyone who would question his ideas and methods. He's also a racist, sexist, misogynist pig. Those flaws aren't the characteristics of an addict, they're the characteristics of an awful human being. His problem doesn't excuse his behaviour. If an airline captain, a brain surgeon or a corporate CEO displayed similar repeated behaviours, would anyone be willing to empathize and say it's okay for them to continue in their leadership role because, after all, "they're an addict"? If you can, then I guess that makes you a better person than I, but I suspect we'd all want them removed from duty to protect others from harm. There is no evidence to suggest he has hit rock bottom. When an addict hits rock bottom, the road to wellness is long and hard. It can't be travelled in 30 days with a junket to a foreign rehab clinic. Knowing that, it's my opinion that this is little more than another publicity stunt - because he got caught - again - in the middle of an election campaign - after promising to never, ever, ever do it again. If we don't see him again for a year or two, then I will happily admit I was wrong, but don't be surprised if he's back on the hustings in a month, telling us he's cured and ready to lead again.I can empathize with Rob Ford the addict. I honestly hope he gets well and that it sticks. Typically, addicts on the path to wellness will spend a good deal of their time trying to atone for their past wrongs. Again, if Rob Ford comes back and starts doing that instead of trying to campaign again, I will admit I was wrong. Unfortunately I do not believe this is the end of his problem. Based on his past behaviour, I believe that he's only hopped a plane to Chicago because he got caught and he's in damage control mode. Therefore, I cannot empathize with the Rob Ford who has held himself up as a leader while displaying extremely poor judgement and leadership skills. None of that can be excused because he has as addiction. A true leader would have stepped aside a long, long time ago. The people of Toronto - and Rob Ford's family - deserve better. Guest
I feel bad having the idiot as mayor.I do not live in YYZ, so as I stated, I could care less about his politics. But watching his behavior, this is all stuff I watched for years, I know the behavior well and he is spinning out of control. So many said get help, he was the laughing stock for not getting help, now he has and those same people who laughed at him for not getting help and laughing at him for doing so, i am sorry, but in my eyes, that is pathetic. IFG
Well Jeff,I have seen it, people close in my my life who were as bad if not worse. When straight were great people, but as soon as the drugs took hold, it was dr Jekyl Mr HydeRobert - Rob Ford is not "great people", even when straight. Drunk, stoned or sober, he is everything J.O. says he is, and a repeatedly-proven serial liar and slanderer to boot - way, way beyond any generic characterizations fashionably and frivolously made about all politicians. I don't share his politics, but that's really beside the point. While there might indeed be some opportunism among his political opponents, those who continue to support him politically just tar themselves with his disgrace, as well.Cheers, IFG
