For those who like to worry, there's an asteroid due on 15 Feb that will be ~34560 kms from earth. Closest one I can find on the linked chart.

35-79m in diameter. I suppose in the grand scheme of things, that's a pretty good shot.

"A near miss is still a miss".

And it's only travelling at 7.79 km/second.

Do you think the breeze from it's passing will ruffle our hair?

A near miss is an unplanned event that did not result in injury, illness, or damage – but had the potential to do so. Only a fortunate break in the chain of events prevented an injury, fatality or damage; in other words, a miss that was nonetheless very near. Although the label of 'human error' is commonly applied to an initiating event, a faulty process or system invariably permits or compounds the harm, and should be the focus of improvement. Other familiar terms for these events is a "close call", or in the case of moving objects, "near collision" or a near hit. :biggrin2:

Alright guys, lol. The fact is that 2 asteroids came close to earth late this year. Sure glad it missed us, phew.

Ahhh, but they BOTH missed us. They knew about one of them in advance; the second one caught them by surprise. We would probably never have been told if they found out last minute that it was going to hit us. Sure puts a lot of our silly human-made issues into perspective, eh?
