So if I'm to read this correctly, our PM understands that levies on travel can have an negative impact on trade and travel.

My question...when will he look at the levies that are placed on our own transportation system, which are driving travelers south of the border and hurting Canadian businesses.

Transport Minister John Baird calls it a user fee.

But critics of the extra airline security fee he unveiled Thursday accused the government of introducing a new tax.

Baird used the backdrop of Ottawa’s Macdonald-Cartier Airport to announce that as of April 1, the government will tack an extra $2.58 onto the existing air travellers’ security charge for one-way domestic flights. The fee increase is higher for transborder flights and overseas trips.

“We have to take every reasonable measure to keep Canadians safe, and in my judgement, if that costs an extra $2.58, the costs of not taking these actions will be demonstrably higher,” Baird said...
