internet
http://www.calgarysun.com/news/alberta/2010/11/27/16345056.htmlFlying out of Calgary will get a little more expensive in the spring. The Airport Improvement Fee, tacked on to the tickets of all travellers departing Calgary International Airport, will rise $3 beginning March 1, 2011 to $25, spokeswoman Jody Mosley said Saturday. Spinnaker
That parallel runway isn't gonna be cheap...Neither is that water feature with the fly fisherman... they must have read Brent Jang's article and reacted as Airport Authorities do. Moon The Loon
A few years ago, there was to be an "improvement" at the Saint John/CYSJ airport in New Brunswick. There was such a furor raised by aviators that the planned "improvement" to the terminal building was delayed or even cancelled (I don't know what has happened since.)I can't believe Calgary, nor I expect, Edmonton Intl. still don't have Cat II capability. The new taxi restrictions (reduced visibility ops) went into effect more than two years ago, "complimenting" the recently invoked approach ban. And they want to improve the terminal building??? What's the sense if passengers can not arrive or depart because of the lack of aviation related infrastructure at an airport??Does WJ's improved cockpit systems allow them to skirt the approach ban? Or allow for reduced RVR's? If so, it wouldn't help during departures, would it?

The HUDs in their RJs get them down to 1200RVR without centerline lighting. The only time we have any advantage is when there is no precision approach and we can use RNP, which typically will have lower minima than a non-precision approach. As usual, the article is a bit sketchy on the details. I'm sure some of the money will end up in artwork but they are building a whole new international terminal to go with the new runway and the expected increase in traffic. The new runway will be CAT III and the existing runway 16/34 will be upgraded to CAT II but that won't be any help if they apply the same logic to their LVOP as they do to the RVOP. It's bad enough as written buy Calgary got their lawyers involved and decided to add their own restrictions making it even worse. Frustrating to say the least. ILB
I understood why C2 was altered, but why not embed some centre-line lights right away, same with the new high-speed off of 28, why no centre-line lighting? Why not slowly work toward 600ft capabilities?
