Our Defence minister...

after Mr. MacKay was spotted by a Parliament Hill reporter Wednesday boldly wearing a red “Fly Emirates” baseball cap

All this after he was not allowed to land there...I wonder how friendly he was with them before all the diplomatic shenanigans

I wonder how big the A380 model he got from his ME friends was????

Globe Article

A quote from Smiling Jack

If the Defence Minister had spent less time advertising for Fly Emirates here on Parliament Hill, perhaps he would have had a solution to the problem of Camp Mirage. What does the government say about the Minister of Defence?”

Strange behaviour. Sounds like he isn't going to last very long.

He came from the PC wing of the party, but history will remember him for having at least one conservative bone in his body.

Peter McKay lost credibility with me when he made the deal with that idiot Orchard to become leader of the party. As someone who is a red Tory he appealed to me but I just don't think he had the leadership abilities required to advance further. His biggest asset was his name.

Not a bad guy but won't be sad to see him go, not wishing death on him or anything :)

The guy is a time expired part, and it's by his own design. It is apparant he wants out and setting up Harper to fire him will possible make soft conservative in NS to vote liberal. Hopefully causing a change in minority government, effecting a leadership reveiw on Harper, then watch Mackay come back into the picture. Maybe that's far fetched, but stranger things have happened in Canadian politics.

I had forgotten about the Orchard thing. Thanks for reminding me Chock. I guess his name is big out in NS because of his father but it doesn't mean much for the rest of the country I should think as they are less familiar.

Cat 3 could be right on with his theory. It does seem plausible.

Thanks guys.

Best MoD we've had since George Pearkes. Huge improvement over such luminaries as Bill Graham ("Why can't I hire my unqualified girlfriend to do a PTSD study?") and John McCallum (one can only presume he followed up his commemoration of the battle of "Vichy Ridge" with a hearty bowl of that new dish "Vimy soise").

The current CDS's predecessor would agree, in his time. Since then though, the current Minister is undoing much of what Gen. Hillier was able to re-start, for instance, the Reserves.

Edit to add: Perhaps though, that is in part the reason for his seeming diminishment within the current cabinet and the dissent evidenced by his wearing of the Emirates cap.

I agree with Airbus_rookie below - he was doing a good job up until the former CDS relinquished his command. Willingly or unwillingly...

Hey, I don't get it. Leave the guy alone. This Country is pretty much on an even kiel thanks to him and many of his Conservative mates. What ever happened to Stephen Dion??? and who are some of the other guys.......I don't know. Mostly forgotten and good thing for that.

Only if your definition of "even keel" includes racking up Canada's largest ever yearly deficit. :icon_oak:

I believe the "stimulus" resulted in more dollars spent on Ontario auto workers than the mission in Afghanistan. Is it worth mentioning that both NDP & Gliberals were demanding greater spending?

Maybe, but the Grits or NDP wouldn't have cut the GST - a move designed to pander to the electorate at the expense of good fiscal management (which is why economists universally panned it). They also wouldn't have revved up unsustainable military spending.

McKay's obviously getting ready to cut and run.

So we'll put you down as in favour of the HST?

The HST is good policy rolled out in an extremely poor manner.

It was the Lieberals that sent Canadian troops to Afghanistan but sent them without the proper equipment.

And how has all that expensive equipment helped "win the war" in Afghanistan?(Hint: it hasn't). As to all the manufactured nonsense about needing our own transport planes, instead of leasing them - I'd love to own a vacation home in Hawaii instead of paying for a hotel room, but it doesn't make sense given the amount of us it would get.
