"This designation gives Canadians a greater choice of air carriers when travelling to France,” said Mr. Valeri. "It's wonderful to see such encouraging growth in our air industry.” Zoom plans to begin operating a Toronto-Montreal-Paris scheduled service in June 2004. The designation of Zoom Airlines demonstrates that Canadian air carriers are benefiting from Canada's competitive framework for international air services. Under the provisions of Canada's international air transportation policy, all Canadian air carriers may apply to the Minister of Transport for designation to operate scheduled international air services. Zoom is a Canadian owned and controlled air carrier licensed by the Canadian Transportation Agency. The airline started operations in December 2002, and has operated a combination of scheduled and charter services to destinations including Barbados, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Florida, Mexico, and Trinidad and Tobago. Zoom will also begin scheduled flight service to the United Kingdom starting in May 2004.
