zipped
Saw it last night and it's a must see. The movie is 2hr 45min long and it went by in a flash. A little too much Hollywood around the crash if the XF-11 in 1947 into a row of houses in Beverly Hills. The details about his dark side slowed the pace down a tad. Remnants of John Nash and "A Beautiful Mind". Issues around Pan Am trying to purchase TWA in the mid 40's. The involvement of the Civil Aeronautics Board in the establishment of PAA's overseas routes to the detriment of Trans World. Similarties with the Canadian Industry of the 70's and 80's. Mr Hughes was a stranges but very exciting man in the early days of aviation. Not a leader around in these modern days who could have walked in his shoes. A great Christmas Holiday season movie for the aviation buff. Cheers to all AEF'rs and all the best of the Chiristmas season.
Super 80
How was Juan Trippe portrayed? This will be the first movie I have seen in theatre since I was dragged to What Women Want, just about 4 years ago.
zipped
Juan Trippe was played by one of the Baldwin boys. They all seem the same to me. Trippe had a lot of political power with the CAB. Pan Am of the day was the favored child of the Airline community. You will see some similarities with the Canadian Govt's Airline of the 50's 60's and 70's. Hughes actually took control of the CAB committe hearings in Washington DC and it was a prize to watch. Richard Branson is the closest airline leader we have to Hughes today.
