  1. My point was unclear...if I had one to make. As of this morning, there have been slightly less than 450,000 Covid cases in Ontario since Jan., 2020 with a little over 400,000 deemed resolved. So....50,000 "active" cases. There are 605 patients in Ontario in ICU on ventilators and just over 800 in ICU in total. That is about 1.5% of the active cases if one assumes all ICU numbers reported are "Covid-related". The modelling 10 days ago that guided the Premier indicated over 1000 Covid-related ICU hospitalizations in Ontario by the end of the week. The vast majority of hospitalizations are concentrated in a few of our metro areas understandable given population densities; non-compliance among certain age-groups and cultures; and, multi-family residences. The war against the virus has to be target-based. When PHAC staff assert that vaccinations are irrelevant to its containment recommendations and there is no "reward" for getting vaccinated then "we" will encounter increasing resistance to the process.
  2. Bottom line....we've lost our way. Too many experts opining on issues they know little about; too many politicians reluctant to admit their ignorance and impotence; too many armchair QB's who "know it all". All I recognize is repeated references to "numbers of cases" but no reference to how many of those are asymptomatic. Can't we go back to those days when we were told that 55% of the population was immune to infection and 35% or more would experience mild to moderate symptoms. We went into lockdown to protect the remaining 10%. Now we have vaccines....and Canada tells returning vaccinated snowbirds that proof of vaccination is irrelevant. Does anybpdy have a clue?
  3. A longggggg time ago, "we" collectively agreed that if we put all covid-free persons in a confined area and let no one in or out, those confined persons would remain Covid-free. However....that virgin territory would be ripe to infection upon one breach; one infected individual has a completely virgin crop. Alternatively, a relatively open community has a "blend" of individuals...infected and transmissive; immune; infected and non-transmissive. The introduction of that same "communicator" has less impact since the person may come into limited if any contact with a "receptive" audience. Florida has seen very few restrictions; personal protection depends more on the committment of the individual to remain virus-free. Everywhere you go, you encounter people who have absolutely no concern. And life ( and death) goes on and millions get vaccinated and hundreds of thousands of doses go unused due to a lack of interest. Florida does not inhibit your ability to protect yourself; stay home; get essentials delivered; etc etc. Personal freedom. But....should you choose to accept some risk...wear a mask and don't attend large gatherings. Or get vaccinated. Ontario says....you MUST stay at home; you have no alternatives....we don't have enough doses of vaccine...sorry. And so it goes.
  4. Holy cow!! Is this all news to you guys? ?? If you enter Canada by air from anywhere ourside Canada, you are required to 1) produce a 72 hour negative PCR; 2) submit to a test at the airport; 3) proceed to a pre-paid quarantine hotel ( minimum 3 days); 4) await the result of your arrival pcr test; 5) if positive, proceed to your place of quarantine for the remainder of the 14 day quarantine period; 6) do another pcr test on day 10. Note....you pay for the 3 day minimum hotel even if your test results are available after 1 night. If you enter Canada by car from the US, the only difference from the above regimen is that you are not required to stay in a hotel to await the results of your arrival test. You STILL submit to 3 tests all of which must of course be negative. And...as has been noted, unless driving your own vehicle to the land crossing, you have to pay ( through the nose!!) for transportation into Canada from an airport near the border. Trust me....it's not a "walk in the park".
  5. https://toronto.ctvnews.ca/man-who-spent-1-500-to-stay-at-toronto-quarantine-hotel-says-he-got-covid-19-anyways-infected-whole-family-1.5384113 So...you can spend $x to legally ( note to Kargo....compying with all laws and regulations does NOT constitute pursuing a "loophole") re-enter Canada safely or pay 3x as much to be put at risk. What manner of people enable this idiocy? Never mind...I think I know the answer.
  6. Apparently, you are reuctant to engage in critical analysis which requires some degree of objectivity. Maintaining residences in two or more countries simply evidences one's financial means or frugality or a fortutious selection of parents but certainly does not indicate an absence of concern with the physical health of others. Did you think it did? You apparently don't understand that I have in fact participated in cross-border travel since the Canada-US border was "closed" and I have adapted as necessary to the environment in which I exist....much like this Covid virus. The issue for discussion....one which you avoid...is whether current restrictions to cross-border traffic in fact enhance public health; do they demonstrably inhibit the transfer of the virus to innocent, stay-at-home Canadians? As rhetorically asked above, would similar restrictions upon domestic travel be as or more effective? If so....why has the government not imposed those restrictions? Would country-specific restrictions be effective? Should Canada restrict travel originating in India, for example? Personally, I believe that I am much safer where I reside in the US than I would be in many places in Canada. Leaving that aside....I do not hesitate to acknowledge that I am almost daily engaged in a personal debate on which approach to the Covid virus is most efficient from a social, economical and medical perspective...and wherein lies the balance. Should John Doe have the right to dine in at a restaurant; does he have the right to make an informed decision? Can Mary object to the exercise of that freedom given Mary's ability to isolate and protect herself from John? Are we primarily concerned that John's acceptance of the risk and the realization of same might over-burden our health care system? If that is the motivator, then ipso fact, as a society, we should prohibit or regulate all activity that carries a risk that collectively we believe to be economically unacceptable. Kargo....THAT is what I mean by critical analysis. Too easy by far to accuse you of finger-pointing at cross-border travellers because you don't have the same mobility.
  7. Take a moment and reflect upon your numerous posts on this subject and ask why you have taken such an immutable position. As has been reported, there is currently a very significant amount of cross-border traffic mostly represented by the transportation industry and "essential" workers. There is sparse evidence that these travellers are carriers /spreaders of the virus. The balance of traffic consists of persons required to produce evidence that they are not infected and are required to quarantine. Please explain how you are more at risk from these individuals than from your friends down the road whose social/work borders are within the confines of Ontario. Please tell me how fully vaccinated "snowbirds" who comply with all of the requirements imposed upon returning Canadians place you at risk. I previously posted that it is a known and indisputable fact that almost every DEL/ YYZ flight carries Covid positive pax. It is suspected that their pre-flight PCR tests are bogus. NZ arrived at the same conclusion noting that of 26 positive cases arriving by air from ALL locations, 17 were from India. They have closed the border to persons coming to NZ from India for two weeks, regardless of citzenry. There are, of course, resulting cries of rascism. But...at least...one can point to extrinsic evidence to support the prejudice. Can you?
  8. A number of reports in.....Texas! Floridians are innured. Same observations as I reported. Apparently it was Starlink satellites deployed. There was a launch Wednesday, I think so blame the excitement on Elon.
  9. I am at anchor off Jupiter Island....around 8:30 pm....dark. Above is the initial approach pattern for SB to PBI. Aircraft lined up coming both from north and east. My wife points out what appears to be a short cylindrical cloud ......contrail?...but it's unusual so we got out the binoculars. What we saw was a string of lights...moving relatively quickly in a SE direction. After about 30 secs., one at or near the "front" broke off and appeared to double back and then.....the lights disappeared. Period. Nothing remained. They were much higher than the aircraft on approach. No....alcohol NOT involved.
  10. North...when did you go through the "process"? I've quarantined 3 times. The first two times...other than the request for my daily check-in on Arrive Canada...I heard nothing and saw no one. It was only the most recent entry that generated a more "intensive" involvement of PHAC. And two more to go!!
  11. Remember....all lawyers are buried 10' down; not 6'. 'Cuz way down deep, lawyers aren't that bad. And just because...best of my knowledge, no lawyers were fired for exposing their genitals in the courtroom!!?
  12. ?? Okay....I confess. I MAY have objected to a request for identity whilst upon my own property. And I MAY have taken exception to a lady who called and identified herself as " the government of Canada". Regarding id.....I said to the very nice lady requesting same; "If we are NOT Mr.& Mrs " Johnson", we are not subject to the Quarantine Act and the Emergency Order and therefore have no obligation to identify ourselves. If you reasonably believe that we are obligated to identify ourselves, we must be Mr. & Mrs. Johnson." Yup! Must be a lawyer!
  13. And there is truth to what he says!! I just completed 14 days in quarantine. My " quarantine facilities" are in a remote rural area. I had to produce a Covid test at the border; take another test upon entry and a third test 10 days later. I was visited by G4 security twice and by the OPP once. I received not less than one call per day ( as did my wife) from an " in person" or programmed inquisitor to confirm that we had complied with quarantine requirements; weren't entertaining visitors; had adequate food; and, were getting fresh air. After a bit....though the bona fides of the intent is acknowledged....it becomes "wearing". Meanwhile....every Delhi flight....every flight...carries Covid-infected pax and everyone knows it. All the FA reserves do one because everyone gets the "Covid call".
  14. JO... You know better. Two parties negotiating and one does better than the other.....let's not blame that on "size". Competence might be more appropriate. To be clear...I didn't " slip past" anything. I was qualified to receive the vaccine in the US....and availed myself of the opportunity. And then there was my re-entry to Canada at a land border crossing. Keep in mind that Canada required that I obtain a PCR test within 72 hours of my arrival. I obtained a test at Fll and had my results within 24 hours. Upon entry and production of my negative PCR, I was directed to an area with a few tents where I was to be tested anew. My driver was exempt. There were 8/9 people at the tents; there to assist me with the provision of a sample for testing and to give me a 2nd test kit for self-testing 10 days later. There was one vehicle ahead of ours upon arrival. We began the process ( my wife and I) and just before completion, 25 minutes later....the next vehicle arrived. So...call it 8 people to attend to the "needs" of 4 incoming residents in about 45 minutes. The lady on my side of the vehicle was from Barrie...staying at government expense at a nearby hotel. I believe her compatriots were from other areas in the Province. My incoming test was conducted at Fll. There were perhaps 5 people working. I was in and out in 5 minutes. There was not much of a " rush" but the flow was fairly constant. As stated, I had my results within 24 hours. So....how much are "we" paying for this elaborate and useless scheme by our government to convince Canadians that they are being protected from the scourge? I failed to mention that as I sat in the vehicle at this tented enclosure, I watched truck after truck pass by....their drivers all exempt.
  15. When...please tell me...will Canadians let their collective voices be heard and tell Trudeau; "Enough!!" Ontario made ABC's Nightly News with talk of a 3rd surge. The Province speaks of a 6 week lock-down and to date, the grand total of 6.9% of Canada's population has been vaccinated. Trudeau tumpets his concern for the well-being of Canadians and makes it government policy..."Stay Home"!! In my County, that means to lock oneself in their house because venturing out is fraught with risk. Hotel quarantines have done what for who? The viral spread in my County has absolutely NOTHING to do with international ( including US) travel. Stay home for my safety? The US has been efficient enough to vaccinate my wife and myself...and has administered more doses than more than the entire population of Canada!! Think about that. Stay home, Canadians!! Justin....get on a plane and figure out how they do it in the US....and follow its lead!! The vaccine doses I received were at "events" arranged by the State using an "Events" provider. The proceedings were incredibly well-organized and efficient...I arrived 30 minutes early and was out 45 minutes after arrival. I have nothing but praise to offer. I extend my sincere appreciation to our neighbours to the south.
  16. In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.? I don't know about you but were I extant in years BC, I imagine an apparition descending from a spaceship would seem "God-like". To heck with BC....were that to happen to me tomorrow, I might have second thoughts about "God". There are some ( ok...me) who pose for consideration the idea that humanity is "tested" by other-world visitors to assess our reactions. A cynic might refer you to Trump as an example...or Covid. In vino...veritas!!
  17. Obviously...I have no clue as to whether other intelligent organisms from other planets or galaxies exist but....I "think" far more advanced civilizations exist and that our planet has been visited many times. I honestly belive that to think otherwise is incredibly chauvanistic. I believe that our perception of time is dictated by the boundaries we understand. We have no concept of the sense of time experienced by an insect whose lifespan is measured in "our" hours or days. Similarly, we have no comprehension of distance as measured by an ant nor are we able to conceptualize that for an "alien", our million miles may be nothing more than a step. Have you noticed that reports of UFO's increase worldwide at certain periods? No matter where in the world.....sightings are reported episodically. Wonder why? If you lived in a planet far, far away and extra- planetary tourism was the norm as was " time travel", wouldn't you choose to visit Earth during certain times to witness historic events as they unfolded? Moving on....if I thought I witnessed an extra-terrestial spaceship....I'd be VERY reluctant to publicize that observation. Yes....I DO know pilots who have told me confidentially that they have observed objects in flight that defy reason but they are content to leave undisturbed the assertions of ohers that what they saw was nothing more than " swamp gas".
  18. I guess I am not particularly surprised at the responses because pilot or not.....many are very reluctant to acknowledge the possibility of extra-terrestial visitations because they fear being thought a fool. Assume the average age on this forum is at least 50. Which amongst the group who are aviators are willing to say; " I saw an object that I believe to have been an alien transport"? Many reasonably well-informed people accept the likelihood that "we" have been visited by so-called aliens. If you accept that possibility, you are compelled to acknowledge that " they" got here somehow and therefore, the observation of "their" means of transportation by flight crew would be a probability. Brave the jeers; acknowledge the vision!!
  19. This remark and the earlier statement that suicide is "a permanent solution to a temporary problem" is what should occasion outrage. The total absence of empathy is beyond understanding and beggars the imagination for adequate wording of condemnation. I suspect most parents would have at least a glimmer of appreciation of the lifelong emotional distress resulting from the loss of a child at his or her own hands. Few if any can begin to imagine the absolute darkness of the abyss confronting a child suffering the relentless agony of mental illness where ultimately the only conceivable end to the suffering is death. From my heart....Kip Powick....shame on you.
  20. This will not come as a surprise but in my opinion....you don't have a clue and it is unfortunate that others are reluctant to call out your uninformed rant. Repeatedly you post opinions on various subjects and when any suggestion of an attempt at correction is offered, your reponse is ALWAYS defensive with no evidence of 2nd thought or introspection. You do not stand alone. We ALL make mistakes; we ALL are subject to correction. The fault is in failing to acknowledge the possibility. You fail to appreciate that travel per se is not a unique cause of transmission of the virus. Like many others, you appear to believe variants ( so-called) are imported. You are wrong. You seemingly fail to appreciate that commerce is a vehicle of transmission but commerce cannot rationally be terminated without economic devastation. You question the assertion of rights much like the prosecutor who rhetorically asks " If he had nothing to hide, why didn't he just answer the question?" You don't apparently understand the meaning and significance of the rights others fought so vigorously to affirm. You characterize "travellers" as whiners who supposedly are over-indulged. You apparently fail to understand or appreciate that for some, travel is a necessity and for others, a move to a place of sanctuary. Not all are drunken revellers on a sun-drenched beach. I hope that by reason of the efforts and committments of thousands of others who believe that social interaction and the immersion in foreign cultures is essential....you will again get to scuba dive "somewhere in the Caribbean".
  21. Damn!! I screwed up....again!! I thought the smiley emoji was to convey light-hearted banter? I was serious when I said my "studies" on epidemiology and virology and mRNA were all conducted at the University of Google. My reference to your presumed educational background in the sciences was sincere. Like many others who obtained a BA, I majored In socialization....and I hit THOSE books hard!! Rarely saw the inside of a lecture hall because of late nights "studying". I both admire and respect those who invoked their obvious intelligence ( finger pointed) for a more constructive purpose. I confess to having my tongue somewhat embedded in my cheek when I remarked on "armchair quaterbacks" but obviously, Turbofan takes no exception and has never responded with any hint of condescension to anyone. By the way.....a transient boater docked and we started a conversation between boats and the subject of my bland taste in beers came up. I said; "IPA, right?". You can guess the response! ? I expect to PM you later this week about recent events of mutual interest.
  22. IFG....I need some help here. I have no knowledge as to your background though clearly you're informed and since you " made fun" ( justified) of my " google degree", I assume you have at least a first level degree in the sciences. Meanwhile, the person with whom you are " engaging" (Turbofan) reports he/she is in fact a scientist....an immunologist at Emory University. Have I mis-read or is that akin to the discussion of flight dynamics between a frequent-flyer and a pilot? ? A propos nothing.....my hometown went into the red because of the number of infections. 75 per cent of those infections were in one facility....the jail. Aren't those persons already " quarantined"? AND......it was my understanding that the increase in deaths resulting from the Covid variants was due not to the severity of illness per se but simply because of the great increase in number of infected. There is necessarily a levelling as the number of infected increases relative to the total population. In the absence of vaccinations.....way to go JT.....Canada is left with limited choices; accept the risk and protect the vulnerable and increase infections or.....isolate to minimize transmissions until all of the 52 countries further advanced in vaccination supply meet their own needs and extend a helping hand. And why do we focus on number of infections as though this metric is determinative of anything? Surely the issue ought to be the number of hospitalizations of persons without predisposing conditions ( the vulnerable). If that rate is ( for eg) 1/1000, is that not "acceptable" ? If the daily report in Ontario was not 4,000 new cases (!!) but instead 4 hospitalizations due to Covid.....would everyone still be so distracted?
  23. Those same flights did not require negative test results because the lab facilities were not available. The government's policies are not driven by a reasonable application of scientific opinion but by perception and the fear of an "adverse reaction".
  24. Please note....seasonal migrant workers are exempt. Please note....seasonal migrant workers last Spring were noted as a significant source of transmission. And may I add....3 AirTransat flights from Haiti recently arrived in YUL with ALL pax deemed infected!! Only in Canada, you say.
  25. I wanted to add that the will of the virus to survive and replicate is frustrated by the death of the host. It therefore seeks ways to both enhance transmission and not inhibit life. As it mutates, we should see more infections and less deaths.
