  1. I think the Avherald info/numbers are suspect. I am not sure how accurate the info is at that stage of the flight. I find it hard to believe it was a non rotation event. I think maybe it was an issue when TO/GA changed to VNAV after lift off and ‘saw’ a conflict between the FMC path and MCP set altitude (00000). Instead of PATH it commanded VNAV ALT and levelled very early. Surprise and confusion may have led to some inappropriate mode selections before recovering to a normal profile?
  2. Lots of bad news for the industry right now. It is good to see some glimmer of light. https://www.forbes.com/sites/willhorton1/2020/03/14/first-people-fled-hong-kong-now-theyre-rushing-back-and-cathay-pacific-is-adding-flights-as-city-proves-safe-spot-in-coronavirus-outbreak/#3cb9de0420c7
  3. Some info from European disease centre. https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/novel-coronavirus-china/questions-answers
  4. Seems a case of finding a problem for a technology rather than finding a technology to address a real issue. Thoughts? https://www.flyingmag.com/airlines-mull-real-time-monitoring-pilot-conversations
  5. Thanks for info. The seniority list would be cool to see, if he was on it.
  6. Hey folks, does anybody have any info on Sound Air from longer ago than I care say I remember. Specifically company logo/ letterhead styling. A friend reaching retirement worked worked there once upon a time and we are trying to put together a montage of company logos. This one has, so far, proved elusive. Thanks
  7. Compared to the 'good ol' days', the airlines often have a strong focus on 'productivity'. The number of hours worked is higher and days off less per month. Lay-overs are shorter and operations are truly 24/7. The opportunity for recovery can be greatly compromised resulting in acute fatigue with related health issues. A friend was off work medically for 6 months during which time he was able to maintain a 'normal' schedule with adequate quality sleep. As he was getting his medical re-instated the doctor said all his health parameters (BP, blood sugar, weight etc) were excellent and he should continue doing whatever he was doing. He laughed because the only change was he was properly rested.
  8. Good time to be in 'hi-speed tape' sales!
  9. I want to renew my lapsed Canadian medical. Any doctor recommendations? Preferably Kingston if not then Toronto. Thanks.
  10. Relax! Rational thought prevails. Now don't look at any more studies to the contrary! http://www.fitbie.com/2014/05/13/dont-step-away-wine-and-chocolate?blog_cat=juice-bar%3Fcm_mmc%3DTwitter-_-ETNT-_-Content-ETNT-_-bestnews
  11. I choose to see this as confirmation that there are more decent folks on this planet than mainstream media would have us believe. Sometimes we (myself included) just need to 'see' and appreciate the small niceties experienced everyday. That, and performing our own 'random acts of kindness' more regularly.
